Horseback Riding & Carriage Rentals
When you think of the Old West, you think of cowboys, six-shooters, ten-gallon hats, and most of all, horses. Carson Valley has a rich tradition of horsemanship from the early days when horses were used for farm and ranch work as well as for transportation. Today you can take one of these magnificent four-legged time machines back to those early days and ride the trails of the Carson Valley or the Sierra. If you’re a tenderfoot, riding lessons and tours with experienced trail hands will introduce you to the joys of horseback. If you’re not keen on riding, horse-powered transportation is also available in the form of carriage rides. Put on your crinoline hoop skirt and bonnet or your frock coat and hat, and ride to dinner in a hand-made carriage just like they did a century and a half ago. And for a winter adventure, there’s nothing like singing “Jingle Bells” from the back of a real one-horse open sleigh while Jack Frost nips at your nose!
