The Nevada Agricultural Fair returns to the Douglas County Fairgrounds for its fourth year! This event will take place from July 17-20, and is free to attend, with a focus on the science of farming, homesteading, and more, all within the community of western Nevada. There’ll be educational exhibits on clothing and textiles conservation, wildlife, horticultural photography, and more, plus food and merchandise vendors. This year, Dare to Be a Cowboy will be part of the festivities from July 19-20, 2025, from 9:00am to 12:30pm, with their Beginner Youth Rodeo Camp designed for ages 8–16 with little to no horse or rodeo experience. Main Street Gardnerville’s monthly Wine Walks are back for 2025! The Third Thursday Wine Walk takes place on every third Thursday from May to September, with a special theme each month. Main Street invites you to stroll along and visit the various booths run by local businesses and organizations, who will each have some tasty vino for you to try. This event takes place July 17 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

July’s theme is “Rosé in the U.S.A.” Feel free to dress for the occasion and really have fun with it. If wine isn’t your thing – don’t worry! Despite the name, Third Thursday has something for everyone. From hydration stations to non-alcoholic options, food, and more, the Wine Walks are a wonderful way to meet and support local small businesses and meet some pretty incredible people along the way.

The MAYHEMilition Demolition Derby, presented by Simerson Events, returns to the Douglas County Fairgrounds alongside the Nevada Agricultural Fair for its fourth year! Taking place in the evenings on July 17, 18, and 19.

The MAYHEM Mowers race on Thursday the 17 is free to attend. Tickets for events on the 18 and 19 will be $20 for General Admission and $5 for children ages 3-10, with free entry for children under 3. Proceeds will benefit the expansion of Northern Nevada’s local youth livestock groups.

Carson Valley Community Theatre presents a female-led version of “The Odd Couple,” written by Neil Simon.

The colossal engineering failure brought disgrace to the LA Aqueduct’s William Mulholland, while the Los Angeles Water Bureau did everything it could to erase the horrific event from history. Main Street Gardnerville’s monthly Wine Walks are back for 2025! The Third Thursday Wine Walk takes place on every third Thursday from May to September, with a special theme each month. Main Street invites you to stroll along and visit the various booths run by local businesses and organizations, who will each have some tasty vino for you to try. This event takes place September 18 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

September’s theme is “Wines, Vines, and Fall Times.” Feel free to dress for the occasion and really have fun with it. If wine isn’t your thing – don’t worry! Despite the name, Third Thursday has something for everyone. From hydration stations to non-alcoholic options, food, and more, the Wine Walks are a wonderful way to meet and support local small businesses and meet some pretty incredible people along the way.

Registering is easy and can be done the same day of the event at either Larry Peyton Insurance (1544 U.S. Hwy 395 N) or Gardnerville Station (1395 U.S. Hwy 395 N) in Gardnerville. You can also pre-register. It’s $20 for new participants and just $15 for returning participants (just remember to bring your Forever Glass!), or $75 for a season pass to all of this year’s Main Street Wine Walks. Celebrate 106 years of this incredible event, complete with countless arts and crafts vendors, food, and of course, its famous candy!

The Genoa “Candy Dance” originated in 1919 as an effort to raise money to purchase street lights for the small, but enterprising community of Genoa, Nevada’s first settlement. Lillian Virgin Finnegan, daughter of then-prominent Judge Daniel Webster Virgin, suggested the idea of a dance and making candy to pass around during the dance as an incentive for a good “turn-out.” The Genoa community did raise the needed funds for streetlights, but realized the monthly electric bill had to be paid. The candy makers were then called upon each year to help promote the “Candy Dance” and pay a year’s worth of electricity for the streetlights throughout the town. Couples would come from Reno, Carson City, and surrounding areas to join in the evening’s fun. The Arts & Crafts Faire was added in the 1970s, and later became a two-day event. The first Faire was held on the front lawn of a private residence on Genoa Lane with twelve vendors. A few years later, the popular Faire was moved to the Mormon Station Historic State Monument grounds. With added expansion through the years, now Faire exhibitors are also found along a major portion of the downtown area. With all the people visiting the Faire these days, the streets in and out of Genoa are temporarily closed during the day from 7:00am-7:00pm.

Save the date for this amazing weekend, which will take place September 27 and 28, 2025. The event, which boasts over 400 arts and crafts, activity, and food vendors, plus a Saturday night Dinner Dance, draws thousands of people to Genoa.

Booths are open from 9:00am -5:00pm Saturday and 9:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. There is also a Saturday night Dinner and Dance (advance tickets are required, and will be available for purchase ahead of the event).

Main Street Gardnerville is hosting their Annual Coffin Races & Fall Festival at Heritage Park in Gardnerville on October 4, 2025 from 9:00am – 3:00pm. This festival offers something for everyone in the family, from Harvest in the community gardens to East Fork Gallery’s scarecrow building or racing a coffin with a team of friends. There will be live music featuring local bands and performances by talented local companies, plus over 60 arts and crafts vendors and a food truck alley. It is a full day of family-friendly activities, wonderful food and beverages, and entertainment sure to get you in the mood for Fall!

This event is FREE to attend and open to the public, so bring your family and friends for a great day in the park!

Join Douglas County Historical Society for a docent-led tour at the Mottsville Cemetery in Gardnerville.

Explore the resting place of pioneers and hear their stories brought to life by Docent guided tours at select grave sites. Experience local history in a unique way as these talented actors portray the lives and legacies of those who shaped our community.

Guided tours will take place on Saturday, October 18 beginning at 3:00pm, with the last tour at 5:00pm. Tickets are $10 per adult, or $5 for DCHS members and youths 17 years and under. Children 6 years and under are free. You can purchase tickets at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center at 1477 US Hwy 395 N in Gardnerville.

This is intended to be a family friendly program. The cemetery paths are uneven, so it’s best to wear sturdy shoes and avoid open-toed sandals. For more information, visit the Douglas County Historical Society website.

Join Main Street Gardnerville on October 18 for the third run of the 2025 “We Run This Town” fun run/walk series, as they fundraise for local cancer treatment centers and raise awareness. Make sure to dress in pink to show your support!

Register and complete all three runs in the series and your will receive an “I Run This Town” tee shirt!
