On Thursday, September 11, Historian Wayne Scarpaci will speak on “The Iron Horses of Nevada: an Overview of the Historical Railroads of Nevada.” As well as being traversed by three of the largest trans-continental railroads, the Silver State was home to many short line railroads built to support Nevada’s mining booms. Most of these lines have disappeared into the sands of time along with the mines and towns they once served.
This presentation will be accompanied by an exhibit of original railroad art by the speaker; many of which have never before been shown publicly. The art exhibit “Iron Horses” runs from September 8-17 with a special Meet the Artist reception on Saturday, September 13 from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
Doors Open at 6:00pm; Lecture Begins at 6:30pm. This event will take place at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
Tickets are $5.00 at the door, with Alpine, Dayton, Smith Valley and Douglas County Historical Society Members Free! For more information visit the DCHS website or call 775-782-2555, and be sure to check out their Facebook page for other news and updates.
