The Carson Valley Arts Council’s Copeland Gallery is hosting an exhibit that features the work of local artist Anne Mitchell. Anne’s specialty is multi-media.

You can view the new exhibit from August 24 through October 16, 2026 at the Copeland Gallery in Minden, Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm. Anne’s work will be available for purchase.

CVAC will host a free reception on Saturday, August 29 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, where there will be an opportunity to meet the artist.

This will be an hour and 15 minute long MINI pottery wheel class….for couples, family members, friends and singles, up to 4 people per session. Each person will get 3 tries/3 balls of clay. There will be a beginner pottery wheel class (the same techniques used with the kids). Pieces made will be left behind, fired in the kiln and ready for glazing in a 10-14 days. Celebrate 107 years of this incredible event, complete with countless arts and crafts vendors, food, and of course, its famous candy!

The Genoa “Candy Dance” originated in 1919 as an effort to raise money to purchase street lights for the small, but enterprising community of Genoa, Nevada’s first settlement. Lillian Virgin Finnegan, daughter of then-prominent Judge Daniel Webster Virgin, suggested the idea of a dance and making candy to pass around during the dance as an incentive for a good “turn-out.” The Genoa community did raise the needed funds for streetlights, but realized the monthly electric bill had to be paid. The candy makers were then called upon each year to help promote the “Candy Dance” and pay a year’s worth of electricity for the streetlights throughout the town. Couples would come from Reno, Carson City, and surrounding areas to join in the evening’s fun. The Arts & Crafts Faire was added in the 1970s, and later became a two-day event. The first Faire was held on the front lawn of a private residence on Genoa Lane with twelve vendors. A few years later, the popular Faire was moved to the Mormon Station Historic State Monument grounds. With added expansion through the years, now Faire exhibitors are also found along a major portion of the downtown area. With all the people visiting the Faire these days, the streets in and out of Genoa are temporarily closed during the day from 7:00am-7:00pm.

Save the date for this amazing weekend, which will take place September 26 and 27, 2026. The event, which boasts over 400 arts and crafts, activity, and food vendors, plus a Saturday night Dinner Dance, draws thousands of people to Genoa.

Booths are open from 9:00am -5:00pm Saturday and 9:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. Tickets for the Saturday night Dinner and Dance are sold out for 2026.

The Carson Valley Trails Association is excited to bring back its popular trail run/walk for 2026. This timed but non-competitive 5K, 10k, or 2k will start at the James Lee Park Trailhead on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Choose from three distances:

• 10k run/walk: The 10k (6 mile) loop begins at James Lee Park at 8:00am. Runners start with a .25 mile single track climb before exploring several trails that make up the Jacks Valley and James Lee Loops.
• 5k run/walk: The 5k’ish (3.55 mile) loop begins at James Lee Park at 8:30am. Runners start with a .25 mile single track climb before exploring several trails that make up the James Lee Loops.
• 2k family run/walk: The 2k also begins at James Lee Park at 9:30am and utilizes the crushed granite path that follows the Indian Hills fitness course before circling back along single track trails to the start (all dirt, but off-road strollers and friendly, leashed dogs welcome). The 2k is free and all children under 12 will receive a kid’s finisher medal. Enjoy a beautiful fall morning with your family at the base our beautiful mountains!

Feeling extra adventurous? Run the 10k at 8:00am or the 5k at 8:30am and then join your family for the 2k at 9:30am.

This is a great non-competitive opportunity for beginners to get out and experience a 5k trail run. Tech shirts will be provided for all 5k and 10k finishers.

This is a great beginner/intermediate stained glass class. Choose from a plethora of beginner and intermediate patterns once you arrive.

You are intermediate if you have done stained glass at least once here before. If you have never cut glass before, it’s recommended to take a Glass Fusing class first so you can learn to cut glass with fewer consequences, though not required.

If you already know how to cut glass, your stained glass project is more likely to turn out better and not take as long. Ages 13 and up are welcome to purchase a ticket with a ticketed adult.

Drop in to visit the Dangberg Home Ranch house! The Home Ranch house, which was built between 1857 and 1917, was home to four generations of of the Dangberg family. Come see how they lived and what home on the ranch was really like.

On Open House days, the house will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm for self-guided tours, and docents will be onsite to answer your questions. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds after visiting the house. These events are free and open to all!

In this two-hour, all-levels workshop, you’ll use water’s natural tendency to drift, bloom, and blend as a way into looser brushwork and a looser grip on “getting it right.” Through guided exercises — from watching paint bloom untouched to painting with your eyes closed — you’ll build technical skill in wet-on-wet watercolor while practicing the simple, surprisingly hard art of letting go. Plan a weekend getaway in the beautiful Carson Valley, full of Music and Art!

The Carson Valley Arts Council announces the 6th Annual Carson Valley Art Studio Tour for 2026. Bring your family and friends for this free creative drive-yourself tour of local studios with a variety of talented artists on Saturday, October 10  from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday, October 11 from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Printed and online studio maps will be available in September at local galleries and the Carson Valley Arts Council, 1572 U.S. Hwy 395 N, Minden, NV and participating galleries. In September, the Tour website CVASTour.org will also include an interactive online map and downloadable list of the participating studios, gallery information, and background for each artist. The website also includes a schedule of special demonstrations and music features.

In this class you will get a brief run down of the tools and adhesives used to make your mosaic project. You will be cutting glass. Grouting will most likely happen in class, however grouting can be done at home also.

The base shapes are already cut by hand so be prepared to choose a shape for each ticket from the event photo when registering.

Charcuterie will be provided due to the length of the class. Please bring what you would like to drink. Historian David Woodruff will read aloud what is often acclaimed to be one of the greatest short nature stories ever written, “The Tale of Stickeen: An Adventure with a Dog and a Glacier.” Stickeen is an account written by American naturalist John Muir, while on a journey to Alaska in 1880. The story recounts Muir’s exploration of an Alaska glacier with an unlikely four-legged companion, and their harrowing and electrifying near-death exploits in one of North America’s most isolated locations. Stickeen is one of Muir’s most popular writings and is a classic story of adventure, survival, and companionship.

Carson Valley Community Theatre presents Morning’s At Seven, a play by Paul Osborn.

The year is 1938; the place is a small Midwestern town, where the four aging Gibbs sisters share in each other’s lives including drama, comedy, and tragedy, not to mention, sympathy, secrets, caring, anger, envy, jealousy, and love. Cora Swanson and her sister, Ida Bolton, along with husbands Thor and Carl, have lived next door to each other for their entire married lives. Arry, the old-maid sister, lives with Cora and Thor. A fourth sister, Esther and her husband, David, live down the street. All four families are awaiting eagerly the arrival of Ida and Carl’s son, Homer, and his fiancée, Myrtle Brown. Homer has been engaged to Myrtle for seven years and dated her for five years before that and, oddly enough, this will be the first time anyone in his family will have met her. It seems like a simple, happy situation, but trouble ensues as two of the sisters begin to question their lives and decide to make some changes before it’s too late. This heart-warming and hilarious comedy, televised live on several occasions, has won multiple Tony and Drama Desks awards. Morning’s at Seven is considered delightful and darling by all.

Join this watercolor workshop at the beautiful River Fork Ranch Preserve with Constance Peters. Participants will be painting two 8″ x 10″ paintings with fall leaves as the subject.

This workshop is for people with zero to intermediate experience, ages 11 to 101! Participants will work on two paintings and the focus of the workshop will be on watercolor painting techniques.

Students are asked to bring a fine-tipped black ink pen if possible, a pencil and a snack. All other art materials will be provided.

A 55-minute history presentation. Using historic photographs and extensive research, local authors and historians David & Gayle Woodruff reflect back on the deep and rich history of the Carson Valley, including the important roles played by the Minden Flour Milling Company and its magnificent buildings, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, Genoa, the California Trail and more…in creating one of the most historic areas in Nevada.

This presentation will take place on October 18, 2026 from 1:00pm-2:15pm at Minden Mill Distilling. It’s free to attend, provided you have reserved a ticket. The Carson Valley Arts Council’s Copeland Gallery is hosting an exhibit that features the work of local artist Susan Musil. Susan’s specialty is beaded jewelry and display objects.

You can view the new exhibit from October 19 through December 11, 2026 at the Copeland Gallery in Minden, Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm. Susan’s work will be available for purchase.

CVAC will host a free reception on Saturday, October 24 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, where there will be an opportunity to meet the artist.

Visit Carson Valley’s Ferris 50 Endurance Run event returns for 2026, taking place on November 7. This exciting race invites runners to compete in their choice of 3 distances – 50 miles, 50k, or 15k – spanning along a mix of single-track trails, OHV trails, and minimal concrete.

Plus, new for 2026, Ferris 50 is introducing a 1.5K Kids Race for future ultra athletes in the making!

The 50 Mile, 50K, and 15K races will start in the arena at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 920 Dump Rd in Gardnerville. The Kids Race will be an out-and-back from the Festival at the Carson Valley Health Finish Line in TJ’s Corral.
