The Carson Valley Arts Council’s Copeland Gallery is hosting an exhibit that features the work of local artist Anne Mitchell. Anne’s specialty is multi-media.

You can view the new exhibit from August 24 through October 16, 2026 at the Copeland Gallery in Minden, Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm. Anne’s work will be available for purchase.

CVAC will host a free reception on Saturday, August 29 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, where there will be an opportunity to meet the artist.

From wartime mysteries to engineering marvels and hard hitting sports history, this 55 minute history program uncovers some of the most surprising and little known stories of western Nevada-including the strange arrival of Japanese fire balloons during World War II, the audacious effort to tap Lake Tahoe through an underwater drain, the era when Nevada stood as a national boxing powerhouse, and the poignant, often overlooked history of Reno’s first mental hospital—woven together by David and Gayle Woodruff in a fast moving, richly contextual journey through the region’s past.

Glass Fusing is a great beginner glass cutting class. Technically you don’t have to cut glass if you don’t want to (projects can be abstract).

You’ll be given a space of 6″x 6″. Fit as many projects in that space as you can/want. Example photo shows two 3″x6″ pieces made in a 6″ inch square.

Projects will be left behind, fired in the kiln and available for pick up the following week.

Drop in to visit the Dangberg Home Ranch house! The Home Ranch house, which was built between 1857 and 1917, was home to four generations of of the Dangberg family. Come see how they lived and what home on the ranch was really like.

On Open House days, the house will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm for self-guided tours, and docents will be onsite to answer your questions. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds after visiting the house. These events are free and open to all!

Celebrate 107 years of this incredible event, complete with countless arts and crafts vendors, food, and of course, its famous candy!

The Genoa “Candy Dance” originated in 1919 as an effort to raise money to purchase street lights for the small, but enterprising community of Genoa, Nevada’s first settlement. Lillian Virgin Finnegan, daughter of then-prominent Judge Daniel Webster Virgin, suggested the idea of a dance and making candy to pass around during the dance as an incentive for a good “turn-out.” The Genoa community did raise the needed funds for streetlights, but realized the monthly electric bill had to be paid. The candy makers were then called upon each year to help promote the “Candy Dance” and pay a year’s worth of electricity for the streetlights throughout the town. Couples would come from Reno, Carson City, and surrounding areas to join in the evening’s fun. The Arts & Crafts Faire was added in the 1970s, and later became a two-day event. The first Faire was held on the front lawn of a private residence on Genoa Lane with twelve vendors. A few years later, the popular Faire was moved to the Mormon Station Historic State Monument grounds. With added expansion through the years, now Faire exhibitors are also found along a major portion of the downtown area. With all the people visiting the Faire these days, the streets in and out of Genoa are temporarily closed during the day from 7:00am-7:00pm.

Save the date for this amazing weekend, which will take place September 26 and 27, 2026. The event, which boasts over 400 arts and crafts, activity, and food vendors, plus a Saturday night Dinner Dance, draws thousands of people to Genoa.

Booths are open from 9:00am -5:00pm Saturday and 9:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. Tickets for the Saturday night Dinner and Dance are sold out for 2026.

The Carson Valley Trails Association is excited to bring back its popular trail run/walk for 2026. This timed but non-competitive 5K, 10k, or 2k will start at the James Lee Park Trailhead on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Choose from three distances:

• 10k run/walk: The 10k (6 mile) loop begins at James Lee Park at 8:00am. Runners start with a .25 mile single track climb before exploring several trails that make up the Jacks Valley and James Lee Loops.
• 5k run/walk: The 5k’ish (3.55 mile) loop begins at James Lee Park at 8:30am. Runners start with a .25 mile single track climb before exploring several trails that make up the James Lee Loops.
• 2k family run/walk: The 2k also begins at James Lee Park at 9:30am and utilizes the crushed granite path that follows the Indian Hills fitness course before circling back along single track trails to the start (all dirt, but off-road strollers and friendly, leashed dogs welcome). The 2k is free and all children under 12 will receive a kid’s finisher medal. Enjoy a beautiful fall morning with your family at the base our beautiful mountains!

Feeling extra adventurous? Run the 10k at 8:00am or the 5k at 8:30am and then join your family for the 2k at 9:30am.

This is a great non-competitive opportunity for beginners to get out and experience a 5k trail run. Tech shirts will be provided for all 5k and 10k finishers.

This is a great beginner/intermediate stained glass class. Choose from a plethora of beginner and intermediate patterns once you arrive.

You are intermediate if you have done stained glass at least once here before. If you have never cut glass before, it’s recommended to take a Glass Fusing class first so you can learn to cut glass with fewer consequences, though not required.

Carson Valley Arts Council’s 2026-2027 Concert Series will kick off with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 7:00pm at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

For nearly four decades, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have been a driving force in the Americana and roots music scene, blending Rock & Roll, Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues into a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

In this two-hour, all-levels workshop, you’ll use water’s natural tendency to drift, bloom, and blend as a way into looser brushwork and a looser grip on “getting it right.” Through guided exercises — from watching paint bloom untouched to painting with your eyes closed — you’ll build technical skill in wet-on-wet watercolor while practicing the simple, surprisingly hard art of letting go. No experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity (and a willingness to make a few “mistakes”). All materials will be provided, and you will leave with both skills and a finished work of art!

The event will be held in the Grand Ballroom at the Carson Valley Inn, and will include dinner, no-host cocktails, silent & live auctions, and a live concert featuring country music artist, Jakota Wass, and members of his band. Funds raised at the Gala will directly support these special Douglas County Public Library programs and projects:

The Carson Valley Arts Council announces the 6th Annual Carson Valley Art Studio Tour for 2026. Bring your family and friends for this free creative drive-yourself tour of local studios with a variety of talented artists on Saturday, October 10  from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday, October 11 from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Printed and online studio maps will be available in September at local galleries and the Carson Valley Arts Council, 1572 U.S. Hwy 395 N, Minden, NV and participating galleries. In September, the Tour website CVASTour.org will also include an interactive online map and downloadable list of the participating studios, gallery information, and background for each artist. The website also includes a schedule of special demonstrations and music features.

Carson Valley Community Theatre presents Morning’s At Seven, a play by Paul Osborn.

The year is 1938; the place is a small Midwestern town, where the four aging Gibbs sisters share in each other’s lives including drama, comedy, and tragedy, not to mention, sympathy, secrets, caring, anger, envy, jealousy, and love. Cora Swanson and her sister, Ida Bolton, along with husbands Thor and Carl, have lived next door to each other for their entire married lives. Arry, the old-maid sister, lives with Cora and Thor. A fourth sister, Esther and her husband, David, live down the street. All four families are awaiting eagerly the arrival of Ida and Carl’s son, Homer, and his fiancée, Myrtle Brown. Homer has been engaged to Myrtle for seven years and dated her for five years before that and, oddly enough, this will be the first time anyone in his family will have met her. It seems like a simple, happy situation, but trouble ensues as two of the sisters begin to question their lives and decide to make some changes before it’s too late. This heart-warming and hilarious comedy, televised live on several occasions, has won multiple Tony and Drama Desks awards. Morning’s at Seven is considered delightful and darling by all.

Join this watercolor workshop at the beautiful River Fork Ranch Preserve with Constance Peters. Participants will be painting two 8″ x 10″ paintings with fall leaves as the subject.

This workshop is for people with zero to intermediate experience, ages 11 to 101! Participants will work on two paintings and the focus of the workshop will be on watercolor painting techniques.

Students are asked to bring a fine-tipped black ink pen if possible, a pencil and a snack. All other art materials will be provided.
