Carson Valley Arts Council (CVAC) presents local artist Ann Allen at the Copeland Gallery in Minden from September 3 through October 31, 2025. Ann creates Mandala art designs on ceramic, canvas, and wood as functional artwork.

The exhibit can be viewed Monday through Saturday 10:00am to 5:00pm. Ann’s work will be available for purchase.

CVAC will be hosting an artist’s reception on Saturday, September 13, 2025, 1:00pm-3:00pm. Refreshments will be served and it is free to the public. Come and meet Ann and preview her amazing work.

The Corley Ranch Harvest Festival is taking place every day from 10:00am to 5:00pm from September 27- October 31, 2025!

Bring the whole family for a day of fall fun—pumpkins, pig races, corn maze, straw maze, sling shot, train rides, hayrides, mini golf, farm animals, festive treats, and all the harvest magic you’ve been waiting for.

Admission varies between $8 per person on weekdays and $12 per person on weekends, with special discounts for seniors and children under the age of 2.

The Carson Valley Trails Association is excited to bring back its popular trail run/walk for 2025. This timed but non-competitive 5K, 10k, or 2k will start at the James Lee Park Trailhead on Saturday, Oct 4, 2025 and will include:

• 5K and 10k trail runs within CVTA’s James Lee Loops (8:00am start time for 10k, 8:30am start time for 5k).
• 2k free family fun run/walk; off-road strollers and dogs (on leash) are welcome (9:30am start time).
• Race registration includes t-shirt for adults and children 12 and over. Children under 12 race for free and will receive finisher medals!

This is a great non-competitive opportunity for beginners to get out and experience a 5k trail run. Tech shirts will be provided for all 5k and 10k finishers.

On Thursday, October 9, Sharon DeCarlo from the Will James Society will speak on “The Legacy of Will James: Cowboy, Artist and Author.” Will James (1892–1942) was a cowboy, artist, and author best known for his vivid depictions of the American West. Born Joseph Ernest Nephtali Dufault in Quebec, Canada, he later adopted the name Will James after moving to the U.S. and immersing himself in cowboy life. He worked as a ranch hand across the American West, gaining firsthand experience that deeply influenced his writing and art.

James gained fame with his 1926 book Smoky the Cowhorse, which won the Newbery Medal and remains a classic of Western literature. He wrote and illustrated over 20 books, blending gritty realism with romanticism. His dynamic drawings and storytelling captured the spirit of the cowboy era, preserving it for future generations.

Despite a troubled personal life and a hidden past, Will James left a lasting legacy as one of the most authentic voices of the Western frontier.

The first concert in CVAC’s 2025-2026 Concert Series will feature music from Tom Rigney and Flambeau on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 7:00pm at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

Tom Rigney is one of the premier Roots Music Fiddle players on the planet. His band-Tom Rigney and Flambeau specializes in blazing Cajun two-steps, low-down Blues, funky New Orleans grooves, Boogie Woogie piano and heartbreakingly beautiful ballads and waltzes.

This is an intermediate stained glass class. You are intermediate if you have done stained glass at least once at HelloHandmade before. The reason this project is intermediate is because:

1. There are more pieces that need to be cut, taped and soldered in the same amount of class time…12 pieces vs. a 5-8 piece beginner patterns.
2. Many of the pieces are the same size so that the spider web will end with a 90 degree angle…consistency in cutting is important.

Ages 13 welcome with their own ticket and a ticketed adult. This is a long class and a charcuterie platter will be provided; please bring your own drinks with lids.

The Carson Valley Arts Council announces the 5th Annual Carson Valley Art Studio Tour. Bring your family and friends for this free creative drive yourself tour of 15 studios with 26 artists on Saturday, October 11  from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday, October 12 from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Printed and online studio maps will be available in September at local galleries and the Carson Valley Arts Council, 1572 U.S. Hwy 395 N, Minden, NV and participating galleries. In September, the Tour website CVASTour.org will also include an interactive online map and downloadable pdf file with the studios, galleries information and art examples and background for each artist. The website also includes a schedule of special demonstrations and music features. Visit eight studios or galleries to become eligible to win free art!

A 55-minute history presentation. Using historic photographs and extensive research, local authors and historians David & Gayle Woodruff reflect back on the deep and rich history of the Carson Valley, including the important roles played by the Minden Flour Milling Company and its magnificent buildings, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, pioneer families, Genoa, the California Trail and more…in creating one of the most historic areas in Nevada.

The High Sierra Fly Casters is holding a series of Fly Tying Workshops. The workshops are open to all interested in fly tying. Accompanied youth participation is most welcome!

The purpose of the workshops are to share collected fly tying knowledge. The target participants are those who want to move beyond absolute beginner or intermediate levels. Beginners are welcome to come and learn what fly tying is all about.

This will be an hour and 15 minute long pottery wheel class….for couples, family members, friends, and singles. This class will take place on October 18 at HelloHandmade in Gardnerville, with three time windows available (capacity up to 4 people per time window). Each person will get 3 tries/3 balls of clay as they follow along with this beginner pottery wheel class.  Pieces made will be left behind and fired in the kiln and ready for glazing in a 10-14 days. Join this Fun & Easy Fall Leaves Watercolor Workshop, for people with zero watercolor experience to intermediate level. Ages 11 to 100. Paint, brushes, paper are provided. Please bring a pencil & eraser (kneaded eraser is best but optional).

You’ll learn about deciduous trees in the Carson Valley area and how to do loose watercolor techniques for a background on watercolor paper (8″x10″). You’ll get to experiment with dry brush & wet-on wet techniques, salt effects, splattering, and scraping. You’ll produce at least 2 works of art (3 if time allows).

Leaves will be already drawn for you, so no drawing experience necessary. If there is time, you can trace around leaves and do your own leaves, but the focus of the workshop is on painting them and the backgrounds.

Bring a snack and drink if you’d like.

Local historians David & Gayle Woodruff assume the characters of James Reed and his wife Margret, who were the original organizers of the infamous Donner Party of 1846. This Chautauqua presentation relives the heroic efforts of James, who led courageous volunteers through that terrible Sierra winter to rescue his family and many others, and his wife Margret, who with sheer strength and determination kept their children alive. This compelling, true story of the 45 survivors of the forlorn Donner Party and their rescuers will keep you on the edge of your seat, as it comes to life in this riveting, Chautauqua performance.

Carson Valley Community Theatre presents an eclectic mix of country music, including music dating back nearly 100 years and songs written less than 10 years ago. Glass Fusing is a great beginner glass cutting class. Technically you don’t have to cut glass if you don’t want to (projects can be abstract).

You’ll be given a space of 6″x 6″. Fit as many projects in that space as you can/want. Example photo shows 3 pieces made in a 6″ inch square.

Projects will be left behind, fired in the kiln and available for pick up the following week. All materials and kiln firing included.

This is a judged show, featuring artwork by local artists, a Minor Masterpieces table, and a raffle, all to benefit the CVAA Scholarship fund. Award-winning artists will be selling their paintings (watercolor, acrylic, and oil), mixed media, and photography. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy delicious refreshments during the Saturday Reception from 5:00pm-7:00pm. All are invited to join!

Visit Carson Valley is excited to announce the inaugural Ferris 50 Endurance Run event, taking place on November 8, 2025. This exciting race invites runners to compete in their choice of 3 distances – 50 miles, 50k, or 15k – spanning along a mix of single-track trails, OHV trails, and minimal concrete.

All distances will start in the arena at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 920 Dump Rd in Gardnerville and end at a Finish Line Festival at TJ’s Corral outside of the host hotel of Carson Valley Inn, 1627 U.S. Hwy 395 N in Minden. Shuttles will be provided from the Carson Valley Inn for the convenience of runners. With views across the Valley to Job’s Peak in the west and few significant climbs, this course looks to be beautiful and fast.

Whether you are an experienced runner seeking a challenge in the off-season or a less experienced runner who is ready to explore greater distances at an entry level, Ferris 50 is an opportunity to test your mind and body while taking in the captivating views of Job’s Peak and Carson Valley. Come run where grit meets greatness!

Visit Carson Valley also welcomes all members of the community to join in celebrating with music, food, drinks, and vendors at the Finish Line Festival at TJ’s Corral from 11:00am-5:00pm. Cheer on the runners as they make the Finish Line!

Jump start your Thanksgiving Day celebrations with an energizing race for a worthy cause! Proceeds for the 9th annual Carson Valley Turkey Trot Fun Run will support the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

This fun run takes place in the beautiful Carson Valley, starting at Minden Park in downtown Minden. Trot through this picturesque downtown neighborhood as a fun way to start the Thanksgiving holiday.

In addition to the in-person fun run on Thanksgiving morning, children 12 and under can participate in the Turkey Dash or skip the in-person events altogether- and opt for the virtual race to run on your own schedule. If race is full, same day registration will be available.
