The Carson Valley Arts Council celebrates their 20th year with their annual Concert Series. Don’t miss the exciting 2024-2025 season!
The concert on Friday, January 31st will feature Red Dirt Ruckus. With a healthy dose of bluegrass, a sprinkle of reggae and a big-ole spoonful of funk, Red Dirt Ruckus have been leaving crowds smiling with their own brand of “foothill rudegrass” since 2010.
The performance will take place at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Doors open at 6:00pm, and the concert starts at 7:00pm.
Tickets are $24 for general audience, and free for anyone under the age of 18 with a paid adult ticket. Tickets will be available starting September 1st at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 US Hwy 395 in Minden, online at the Arts Council’s official website, and by phone at 775-782-8207. Advance ticket prices are available till the day before concerts.

The Carson Valley Arts Council’s Copeland Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit that features the work of local artist Alanna McDaniel. Alanna primarily paints with acrylic paint and uses various glazes, stains, and gels along with acrylic paint, but she’s also worked in oils and knitted goods. You can view the new exhibit from February 3 to March 28 at the Copeland Gallery in Minden, Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm. Her work will be available for purchase.
A free reception will be held on Saturday, February 8 from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm, where there will be an opportunity to meet the artist.

Calling all wildlife lovers! This annual weekend showcases birds, wide-open spaces, and the cutest calves imaginable! Each year, the calving season draws raptors, including bald eagles, to Carson Valley. Eagles and Agriculture celebrates their arrival and offers a chance to witness these majestic birds. Highlights of the event include an opening dinner, where falconers bring their birds for up close viewing, tours for exclusive access to the ranches, a photography workshop, and a photo contest.
Bus-lead tours will be available this year, allowing participants to learn about the local lore while riding in comfort to each tour site. Tickets will be limited, so reserve early!

On February 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2025, the Knight Monsters will be facing the Adirondack Thunder. The Knight Monsters will celebrate our NHL affiliate, the Vegas Golden Knights, and wear special themed jerseys! The puck drops at 7:00pm on Thursday, 7:30pm on Friday, and 7:00pm on Saturday.

The High Sierra Fly Casters is holding a series of Fly Tying Workshops. The workshops are open to all interested in fly tying. Accompanied youth participation is most welcome!
The purpose of the workshops are to share collected fly tying knowledge. The target participants are those who want to move beyond absolute beginner or intermediate levels. Beginners are welcome to come and learn what fly tying is all about. there will be a fly of the month, or a presentation of something fly tying related.
Participants should bring their vice, tools, materials, and a desired fly pattern. The tables can accommodate both pedestal vices. Protective padding for the latter will be provided. Electric power is available at each table for lamps.
Workshop dates are as follows: January 16, February 20, March 20, and April 17.

The Carson Valley Quilt Guild will present an old fashioned “Bed Turning” of antique quilts at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center on Saturday, March 15.
Bed Turnings are a unique element of American Heritage, allowing artisans a creative way to share the provenance and lore behind their quilts. First held in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1991, this program has become the cornerstone of National Quilting Day. National Quilting Day is observed annually on the third Saturday of March.
Doors open at 10:00am. Bed Turnings will be held at 11:00am and 1:00pm. In addition, a demonstration of quilting techniques will run throughout the day. Admission is free!

Genoa Western Heritage Days is a celebration of culture and community and showcases the area’s rich heritage. Kick off the weekend on Friday, May 2nd, with concerts featuring Dave Stamey and Kristyn Harris. Saturday evening will feature performances by The Cowboy Way trio and Gary Allegretto. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and individual tickets will go on sale January 2nd of 2025. Saturday’s free daytime activities will be held 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will feature live Western music, cowboy poetry, Chautauqua actors portraying historic characters, children’s activities, Ag in the Classroom with the Douglas County Farm Bureau, a Civil War Camp, and demonstrations by the Truckee Meadows Pioneers. For art lovers, there will be Western artists, vendors and makers. Food and drinks will be available throughout town for purchase!
A highlight of the Saturday festival is the Invitational Horse Parade, which will proceed through the historic downtown at 2 p.m.
Local restaurants will host a Progressive Dinner on Saturday from 4 – 6:30 p.m. Passports and colored wristbands will designate your starting location and rotations. Progressive dinner passports and wrist bands can be picked up at the Gazebo at the corner of Genoa Lane and Main Street between 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd. Tickets are $40 and go on sale January 2, 2025.
Activities on Sunday, May 4th will include Cowboy Church in the Town Hall with Pastor Patrick Jolly and Doug Figgs of the Cowboy Way at 9 a.m. Following Cowboy Church, special instructor Gary Allegretto will be hosting a Harmonica Workshop at 10:30 a.m.

The Carson Valley Arts Council celebrates their 20th year with their annual Concert Series. Don’t miss the exciting 2024-2025 season!
The concert on Friday, May 9th will feature The Paperboys. This globe-touring Canadian sextet can be counted on to stomp through Celtic reels, traditional Mexican folk, fiddle tunes, New Orleans brass band music, classic pop songcraft, bluegrass, and even a philosophical waltz or two, before bringing it all home with a Latino/West African singalong.
The performance will take place at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Doors open at 6:00pm, and the concert starts at 7:00pm.
Tickets are $27 for general audience, and free for anyone under the age of 18 with a paid adult ticket. Tickets will be available starting September 1st at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 US Hwy 395 in Minden, online at the Arts Council’s official website, and by phone at 775-782-8207. Advance ticket prices are available till the day before concerts.

Don’t miss this exciting weekend of hot air balloons, competitions, live music, local vendors, and food trucks!
The third annual Carson Valley Hot Air for Hope Balloon Festival will be held at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, Nevada from May 16th-18th, 2025, and will serve as a benefit for the Center for Hope & Healing’s community programs.
Organized by the Carson Valley Balloon Festival and Presented by Carson Tahoe Health, this event is free to the public and will include three public balloon launches from Lampe Park at 6:00am each morning (weather dependent).
On Friday evening, May 16, hot air balloon baskets will fill Lampe Park for “Fire It Up, Carson Valley!” Food trucks and music will start at 6:00pm while pilots set up their gear for one hot night! Be sure to come out and meet the pilots, have a bite to eat, and enjoy some great live music!
In addition to the balloon events, the festivities will include live music, food trucks, live art performances, and local vendors, Friday 6:00pm-10:00pm, Saturday 5:00am-3:00pm (plus Kid’s Zone), and Sunday (food trucks only) from 5:00am-10:00am. Festival activities will occur rain or shine!

The Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th, along the banks of Willow Creek at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, and is a FREE event
The Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th, along the banks of Willow Creek at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, and is a FREE event for kids ages 3- 12 years old. Each young angler will be provided everything they need to have a fun fishing experience, is allowed a 2 fish catching limit, and will be given a special gate prize at the end of their session. Additional prizes will be awarded for every special tagged fish caught, as well as to the children who catches the largest fish during each of the 7 derby sessions.
While participation in the event is free, Pre-Registration is required to receive a session ticket. Registration for the event will begin in April 1st and continue until the week of the Derby.

The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club #85 has participated in this event since the 1930s. For the last 60+ years, they’ve had the privilege of hosting this event, while continuing its legacy. Join Douglas County Historical Society for a docent-led tour at the Mottsville Cemetery in Gardnerville.
Explore the resting place of pioneers and hear their stories brought to life by Docent guided tours at select grave sites. Experience local history in a unique way as these talented actors portray the lives and legacies of those who shaped our community.
Guided tours will take place on Saturday, October 18 beginning at 3:00pm, with the last tour at 5:00pm. Tickets are $10 per adult, or $5 for DCHS members and youths 17 years and under. Children 6 years and under are free. You can purchase tickets at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center at 1477 US Hwy 395 N in Gardnerville.
This is intended to be a family friendly program. The cemetery paths are uneven, so it’s best to wear sturdy shoes and avoid open-toed sandals. For more information, visit the Douglas County Historical Society website.
